What Is Faith?

DSC07554 publish

As is it with anything in life the answers are within the Bible, take a few moments to look at the Book of Hebrews, chapter 11.  It begins…

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

Hebrews 11:1

As it continues it provides several examples of faith represented in the lives of biblical heroes, who despite their circumstances, persevered in faith to trust God even when everyone around them told them differently.

The statement above is simple, living it out is not easy…we need daily interaction and a growing relationship with the Lord in order to stay on course.

Faith is not an event or a destination it is most definitely a journey!  May God’s peace be with you today as you take a few more steps along the way.

You Are Loved

dsc_1283-publish

It is a new day and the beginning of a New Year and no matter where you are, no matter what stage of life you are in and no matter what your past is filled with you need to know that the same truth that existed thousands of years ago is still as true today as it ever was…God loves you!

He made the greatest sacrifice that can be made…

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

Not only did God send Jesus to earth to save us, which alone is amazing to think about…Jesus was already in the kingdom of heaven, he was already in the place of eternal life where there is joy and peace, but he sacrificed all of that to come down to save you. Then Jesus did something unfathomable…

“And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross!”

Philippians 2:8

Although scared himself, as he prayed in the garden of Gethsemane to God the Father to find another way to help humankind, Jesus followed through with God’s plan because he loves you that much.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8

So please know that no matter what your circumstances are today, you are loved by God the Father, Jesus his Son and by the Holy Spirit.

May you live and experience all the fruits of the Spirit in 2017 Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control.

Happy New Year!

Repentence

DSC01047 publish

We live in a world filled with pessimism and darkness and we all have committed sins and made mistakes…also we have all seen the presence of or been associated with light and goodness and kindness.  We have a choice everyday of every year, do we want to move towards the light or towards the darkness?  Our decisions and our everyday interactions play a part in which way we are moving.  One of the best gifts God has given every single person is free will…we get to choose…light of life or darkness?

When we choose to move towards the light of life one of the first steps and most difficult steps is to admit to our sins, to confess we have made mistakes and have done wrong…we need to be humble before God.

As stated, we have all committed sins and made mistakes, all the prominent names in the Bible committed sins, but how we respond to God regarding our mistakes is important. David committed the sin of adultery even after God had made him a King!  We are all human and will all make mistakes…here are some of the words David used to repent in Psalm 51…

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.  Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.”

Psalm 51:1-2

Do be too hard on yourself when you make mistakes or have done wrong we have all done that…choose to respond by turning to God, acknowledge your sins and ask for his forgiveness…

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”

Psalm 51:10-12

Reflect and Give Thanks

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.  Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.  Know that the Lord is God.  It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.  For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

“So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view.  Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

Open The Eyes Of Our Hearts

Paul writes in his letter to the Ephesians…

“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe…”

Merry Christmas with Love!

IMG_20141016_114917386_HDR publish

I wrote this post during Christmas 2 years ago, it still best sums up all that Christmas means to me and the thankfulness I have that Christ came to save us…

Reflecting on the season and all that goes on in our lives…I have always looked forward to Christmas time.  As a kid, I enjoyed the lights, the music and family gatherings and of course…the presents!  As I and my faith have grown I realize that Christmas is a significant point in time for me to really deepen my faith.

As an adult in the mind and a kid at heart I still enjoy the lights, the music and the family gatherings…I now enjoy the giving of gifts far more than the receiving of presents.  Where we live I enjoy the snow and even the cold.  The change of season is natural to me, it is God showing us his love using nature.  All that was alive in summer has passed on but it will all be reborn in springtime.  With the shorter days we set up lights to brighten our nights.  I most enjoy that it seems to be the one time of the year that a significant number of people in the world take pause…and actually acknowledge Jesus Christ and his coming into the world.

This Christmas I pray you see and feel a sense of…

Hope – God made a promise to you and everyone to love you and to never leave you…believe him and trust him with every area of your life.

Peace – Be content when your basic needs are fulfilled and share with others if you have been blessed with abundance…practice patience.

Joy – Wear a smile more often and make an effort to help others find their smile…focus on the positive in any situation.

Love – Life is more about how you treat others than how they treat you…you can’t control what others will think, say or do so don’t waste time worrying about it…do all that you do with love.

At Christmas time and throughout the year put Christ in the center of your life…with Christ you will know Hope, you will know Peace, you will know Joy and you will know that the Love of Christ in your heart will help you overcome anything this world can throw at you.

May you see and know God’s blessings in your life this Christmas and carry them with you all through the New Year!

Merry Christmas!

The Good News

“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.  This will be a sign to you:  You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger’.

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to all on whom his favor rests’.”
