Waiting…Walking With God

I remain confident of this:
    I will see the goodness of the Lord
    in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord;
    be strong and take heart
    and wait for the Lord.”

Psalm 27:13-14 NIV

Oh, the waiting…our world is always sending out messages to hurry up…save time and literally “don’t wait” act now before…you get the point.  Once again, the world pursues the exact opposite of what we hear from God’s Word.  God wants us to walk with Him…not ahead of Him or on our own without Him.  His timing is perfect because it is His plan.  In Luke 2 we meet Simeon, who had been waiting his whole life to see God’s promise fulfilled in the Messiah…as he expected the promise was fulfilled just like every other promise God has made.  The last promise to be fulfilled is when Christ returns…and so we are waiting for that day and while we wait let’s be like Simeon and be good, do-good things, be godly and be faithful to God’s Word.  How are you doing while you wait?

What does loving God look like in your life?  How can we live out what Jesus has said are the first and second greatest commandments in all of God’s Word?  Who is our neighbor in the world and how can we show God’s love to them?

Love God…Love Other People…Share the Gospel

Surrender

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.”

God doesn’t need us to make the plans and try to control the outcomes…and frankly living this way often leads to disappointment and frustration.  I read once in a devotional these words…’God does not need our help or cooperation in establishing purpose in our lives…only our surrender.’  This is true, we need to remember that God is with us and within us always and at all times…instead of thinking He is only near when we pay attention or recognize His presence.  We need to ask ourselves…What have I been trying to plan and control that I need to surrender to God?

Contentment

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.”

The worldly ways and worldly values say ‘get more’, ‘you need more’, ‘you are not enough’…this is evil working to keep us focused on ourselves and not on God.  The truth is we are not enough on our own and never will be…we need God and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ to save us.  We can’t earn it and we don’t deserve it.  When we recognize that because of sin we will never be good enough on our own, with humility, we can turn towards God who has saved us by sacrificing His Son and live content knowing we are saved by faith.  Amen.

Be Still And Wait For Him

We are so impatient and so hurried.  We all spend so much energy on trying to save time and want everything to happen on our own personal time table.  We were not created to go full speed all the time and to expect things immediately…the goal is not to fill time with life…we should strive to fill life by spending appropriate time in all areas of life.  Starting with relationships…we were made to be in communion and community.  In communion with God our Creator and in community with each other…focusing more of our efforts on our relationship with God by taking the first step (Love God) and then working on our relationships with each other (Love Others).  Be still and wait for the Lord.  Peace be with you.

Trust In The Lord

When you feel lost or alone…frustrated or disappointed…uncertain or afraid, turn towards the Lord in prayer.  Put your trust in Him, He is always with you.

Faithfulness

A Full Life

I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

A full life…according which definition?  The world and society define a full life very differently than what Jesus is speaking about.  The worldly way is about money, possessions, popularity and finding the easy, most self-centered convenient way to consume.  The worldly way asks what can I get others to do for me?  God’s way is a very different perspective…it is about the Fruits of the Spirit…love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  God’s definition of a full life is about loving God, loving others and sharing the Good News.  His way asks what can I do today to show the love of God?  What can I do today to love others?  How will you choose to define a full life?

Be Patient…Be Persistent

Renew Your Perspective And Strength

Many aspects of life on earth can make us weary and tired, shaping our perspective to approach life with negativity, doubt and fear.  We often forget, daily, that we can choose our attitude and perspective for this day.  If we focus all our thoughts and energy on our problems and why me, then we may get stuck and begin to spiral downward.  We can be renewed and draw strength by turning our focus to the Lord.  No matter what you are facing remember God is in control and if you put your trust in Him, your strength will be renewed.  Amen.
