Compassion

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
    his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

Psalm 100:5 NIV

To be helpful…thoughtful…aware of the suffering of others…a desire to provide help and support…understanding the needs of another

One of the strongest elements of humility is compassion

Being aware that others are suffering and need assistance and then going and doing something that provides help and support

We all have different roles in our relationships with others

Which means there are many different ways for us to provide help and support depending on who needs us and what has happened to them

When you know or get a sense inside you that you should do something for someone else but you are unsure what it is you should do, do not ignore that feeling

Turn to the Lord and ask Him to help guide you to what the other person needs…then listen and pay attention

Be careful not to do something you believe or think they need from your perspective…rather be sensitive and aware of what they say they need

Compassion does not have to be something difficult and complex in order to be helpful

Often times it is the simple and thoughtful things that make the biggest difference for others

May God’s grace and mercy flow through us and into our relationships

Forgiveness

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Colossians 3:12-14 NIV

This is something we need to give as much as we need to receive it

Forgiveness is more than God’s grace given to us through Jesus Christ…we need to be able to give forgiveness to others and to ourselves as well

If we choose to hold on to the pain, the bitterness and the anger it will eat away at our very life and end up affecting our relationships with everyone

To forgive is not to say someone gets a free pass for hurting us…Instead, we are making the intentional choice to stop letting that hurt control our daily lives.

Christ will help us through this…

We can come to Cross and give thanks to Jesus for His forgiveness of our sins

And we can ask Him to help us find your way to give forgiveness to others

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

God Is With You

When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not set you ablaze.”

You Choose Each Day

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 NIV

God created us with free will

The ability to choose our actions and behaviors

The reason He did this is because a love worth having is love that is chosen

The risk is people can and will choose to reject God

We were created out of love with free will

We can choose how we will live and who we will follow

How do you choose to live this day?

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,

23 They are new every morning;

To Know Him And To Make Him Known

“This is what the Lord says:

“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom
    or the strong boast of their strength
    or the rich boast of their riches,
24 but let the one who boasts boast about this:
    that they have the understanding to know me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
    justice and righteousness on earth,
    for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord.”

Savior…Sacrifice…Salvation

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Matthew 7:13-14 NIV

The world, Satan and our flesh tell us

To look out for ourselves and satisfy ourselves first and most often

This is the sinful nature and it has taken hold of us

God has a plan to redeem us

He provided the Way back into a relationship with Him

To live with purpose and it is based on a personal relationship with His One and Only Son

Jesus Christ

He loves you, He gave His life to save you and His way is the only way to God the Father

He came down from heaven and sacrificed His life to save us from our sinful desires

The life, death and resurrection of Jesus is what we reflect on this week and this day

It is ‘Good Friday’ because of Who God is and What Jesus has done for us

Think about it…His Sacrifice as our Savior for our Salvation

But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
    and by his wounds we are healed.”

“David stayed in the wilderness strongholds and in the hills of the Desert of Ziph. Day after day Saul searched for him, but God did not give David into his hands.”

1 Samuel 23:14 NIV

My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength of my heart
    and my portion forever.”

Psalm 73:26 NIV

“Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Matthew 19:26 NIV

These are just a few of the verses that remind us no matter what we are facing

No matter what we think is not possible or unchangeable

God can do anything

The world will tear us down…Satan will lie to us…

Even our own flesh wants to do the things we do not want to do

Just remember, we are powerless on our own

But God can do anything…

And it is possible that the next moment of our life might be a “But God” moment

Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Find Time For Your Heavenly Father

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

Ephesians 4:2-6 NIV

God cares for and loves each and every one of us

God’s Mercy and Grace

The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
    slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
    nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
    or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Psalm 103:8-12 NIV

Though we can’t earn it God offers us grace and gives us the opportunity to be free from sin

He loves us so much that He willingly went to the Cross to pay to price for our sins

Think of it this way you were charged with a crime and were brought to court…

You are found guilty and convicted…

Then as you are about to be led away…

The judge comes down from the bench and says He will take the punishment you deserve and you are set free

That is what Jesus Christ has done for you and me…

He has made a way for us to be reconciled with God

Thanks be to God for His forgiveness, His mercy and His grace

Grace…Hope…Peace

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we[b] boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

Romans 5:1-4 NIV

God’s love for us is unconditional

This is God’s Grace…His love does not change based on our behaviors

It is hard for us to understand because we are human and He is God

The truth is He cannot love us any more and He cannot love us any less than He does right now

He is the only one we can truly count on in this life

He sent His Son as a sacrifice to allow us to be reconciled to Him

If we are willing to believe in Jesus Christ and seek a personal relationship with Him we will be filled with Hope that only comes through Jesus

By the Grace of God…we can have Hope that brings us Peace that surpasses all understanding

May God’s peace be with you and flow through you into this world
