O Holy Night

The songs of the season for me are the spiritual songs. Music about the events that occurred in Bethlehem thousands of years ago. These songs have endured the test of time. This one in particular was written by a French poet in 1847, the poem was put to music and performed at Christmas Eve service that year for the first time. My favorite version is below…Let the music of the season soothe your soul and be thankful that on that Holy Night our Savior was born. Peace be with you. Amen.

Trust

God knows you…He knows what is happening in your life…He cares for you…He knows the pain, He knows the struggle, He knows about the battle you think nobody else knows about…He knows because Jesus Christ lived as a man on earth and experienced pain and suffering and temptation and He died…but then something wonderful happened…God raised Him from death to life and claimed victory over evil. Trouble will come to all of us and we have a Savior who is Christ the Lord who can lead us and guide through the difficult times in our lives. May the peace of the Lord be with you. Amen.

Holy Spirit

Our guide…Our conscience…Comforter…Presence of God…Spirit of truth…Helper. When we believe in our hearts that Jesus is the Son of God and we confess our sins, God gives us the gift of His Holy Spirit to lead and guide us in our daily lives. Open your heart and mind to God’s Holy Spirit, seek His wisdom and you will find strength and peace. Amen.

He Understands

In the bible, Jesus is referred to as the Son of God and also as the Son of Man. During His life on earth He was God in human form. He knows what it is like to be one of us living on earth. If you have ever thought, ‘God doesn’t seem to care about me’ or ‘God is far too busy to care about my problems’…take a look at Jesus, read about His life in the New Testament of the bible…He knows about life on earth, He understands what you are experiencing. Trust in the Lord and you will find peace. Amen.

God’s Formula

In the Gospel of John chapter 10 we are given an answer to a question. Many of us haven’t even asked the question because we haven’t gotten very far in our faith journey, yet God knows there will be a time when we will want to know. That’s the thing about the bible, it really does have all the answers, that doesn’t mean we are going to like all the answers or that the answers are going to always be what we want them to be…still they are in there and it is up to us to choose to learn them. From my perspsective God’s formula is this (You + A relationship with Jesus = A full life) It’s simple but nobody ever said it was going to be easy. Peace be with you. Amen.

God’s Presence

Courage…comfort…strength…persevering…secure…enduring. In the bible we are told we will have trouble in this world. All of us will be in a battle of some kind…we are also told that God will be with us every step of the way. There have never been any promises that life will be easy and even if you think someone has an easy life, they may be fighting a battle you know nothing about. Thanks be to God for His presence in our lives, in your prayers give Him thanks…if it is hard to see where He is working or what He is up to in your life, pray that you can look at things with new eyes and a new perspective. No matter what the situation…God is with you and He knows what you are going through, today and every day. May His peace wash over you. Amen.

Compassion

Care…concern…gentleness…tenderness…kindness…mercy…understanding…love. God is compassionate. If we would choose compassion over self-centered behavior more often it would make such a big difference in this world. An act of compassion doesn’t have to be recorded and go viral to be meaningful…one act of compassion that benefits one person that nobody else knows about is just as valuable as one that encourages many. Jesus Christ has set us the example of care, concern, gentleness, tenderness, kindness, mercy, understanding and love…let’s strive to follow His lead and show compassion to others. May God’s love, joy and peace be with you. Amen.

Righteousness

Honesty…integrity…honor…purity…goodness. Seek to do good and good will come back to you. This is about who we are as a person in all aspects of life. When you seek to do good, there is no telling how long it can last in the world, especially when you do good to others. There is a quote from John Wesley who was an English evangelical clergyman, preacher, and writer in the 1700’s that still sums up what our goals for goodness should be:

“Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.”

Lay Down Your Burden

We have a Savior, born in barn over 2,000 years ago, because there was no room for Him in the world. Yet He came to save us…He loves us, He forgives us and He will carry us through anything we are facing. Turn to Jesus Christ and lay down your burden and trust in Him. Amen.
